When creating an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) application, many developers start by thinking about connectivity, sensors, or even the user interface. But what about the Data Model? The Data Model defines the basic structure of your information and how you store, manipulate and interact with it. Best practices for IIoT application development recommend that the Data Model is one of the first things to think about. Decide who needs to interact with the data and what specific requirements they’ll have. Think about modularity, reusability and future updates. Consider how your application’s data will interface with external system and what impact external data has for the standardization of your Data Model.
